Abstract

Neonatal mortality is high in laboratory mouse breeding, and causes are poorly understood. Post-mortem analysis of pups is an often overlooked source of information and insight. We present a necropsy protocol for neonatal mice designed for easy practical application by animal technicians.

Résumé

La mortalité néonatale liée à la reproduction des souris est élevée en laboratoire et les causes en sont mal comprises. L’analyse post-mortem des petits est une source d’informations souvent négligée. Nous présentons un protocole d’autopsie des souriceaux nouveaux-nés conçu pour faciliter une application pratique par des techniciens animaliers.

Abstrakt

Die neonatale Sterblichkeit ist in der Labormauszucht hoch, und ihre Ursachen sind nur unzureichend bekannt. Die Post-Mortem-Analyse von Jungmäusen ist eine häufig ignorierte Quelle für Informationen und Erkenntnisse. Wir stellen ein Nekropsie-Protokoll für neonatale Mäuse vor, das zur einfachen, praktischen Anwendung für Tierpfleger vorgesehen ist.

Resumen

La mortalidad neonatal es alta entre los roedores de laboratorio y las causas de ello no acaban de comprenderse. El análisis post mortem de las crías suele ser una técnica desestimada y que sin embargo aporta bastante información y datos. Presentamos un protocolo de necropsia para roedores neonatales diseñada para aplicarse de forma sencilla por parte de técnicos de animales.
