Abstract
Children bring with them tremendous informal knowledge of mathematics when they enter school, but this has often been overlooked when assessing their knowledge of mathematics. This article raises the inevitable issue among early childhood educators and researchers to rethink the assessments to evaluate young children's informal knowledge of mathematics.
